History of Honker Hill Winery
Honker Hill has a rich history that extends beyond making wine. In 1980, the Lucas family purchased the 90-acre farm and established a private hunting club. It had won various awards in excellence and became highly renown. It wasn’t until 2004 that the Lucas brothers planted the vineyard and took advantage of Honker Hill’s location in the Shawnee Hills American Viticulture Area (AVA).
In 2008, Honker Hill Winery was built to process the grapes grown on the property. A year later the winery was opened to the public and Honker Hill Winery became a Shawnee Hills Wine Trail member. Currently, the winery produces a variety of semi-sweet and semi-dry wines that are available for purchase at the winery.
