Enjoy the beautiful out-of-the-way wooded landscape of Pomona Winery. From one of their covered decks or their garden picnic area while tasting exquisite Southern Illinois produced wines. Pomona Winery is one of Shawnee Hills Wine Trail’s founding members. They uniquely specialize in non-grape wines, all crafted from locally grown fruits.
Promoting Illinois Wine Production
George Majka and Jane Payne first started producing wine at Pomona Winery in 1982. There were no vineyards available in Illinois to produce a grape wine when they started. Instead, they supported their production with locally grown fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, apples, and peaches.
99% of the fruits used at Pomona Winery come from within a 25-mile radius of this Southern Illinois establishment.
